Buccina - Comments
From LoveToKnow 1911
The buccina was an instrument that curved over the head or shoulder of the peron who was carrying it and ended with a bell on one end, and a mouth piece on the other. It had a metal bar in the middle which held it steady while the person played it. It was used often in the Roman army to warn solders of intruders and it was somtimes useful in hunting animals. It was made of bronze had a cup mouth piece like today. Romans used it in the millitary, they used for starting the calvery and sometimes scaring elephants during the Punic wars against Carthage.
It was used to wake men up and to warn them of intruders. Some of the present day uses are for waking up people, for music, in the millitary used for orders and commands, we use it in funerals too. Those are the uses of the Roman buccina.
